Corey Ian Haim (born December 23, 1971) is a Canadian actor, known for a 1980s Hollywood career as a teen idol. Though his mother send him to acting class to overcome his shyness, Haim was not particularly fascinated by acting, and he turned to other hobbies such as ice hockey, playing music and comic books.

Haim first broke into mainstream acting playing the role of Larry in the Canadian comedy TV series, The Edison Twins, for four years, while making in 1984 his cinematic debut in Firstborn, alongside the then undiscovered Sarah Jessica Parker and Robert Downey Jr. He also managed to earn a Young Artist Award as an Exceptional Young Actor Starring in a Television Special or Movie of the Week (imagine the competition for this award) for the television movie A Time to Live.

In 1986, he billed as the main star alongside Charlie Sheen, and Winona Ryder in Lucas, that will ofer him another Yound Artist nomination and good reviews.

In 1987, Haim won a role in Joel Schumacher’s vampire family comedy film The Lost Boys, alongside Jason Patric and Kiefer Sutherland. The film was well received by most reviewers but it was the film that brought him together with fellow teenage actor Corey Feldman (not in a sexual way).

Both of them starred in 1988’s License to Drive, with great success, while Heim went to play in the horror film Watchers. Bit by bit The two Coreys had become a popular on screen duo, and they met again in 1989 in Dream a Little Dream, which is more famous for the No1 Billboard The film spawned the Billboard Hot 100 number one single Rock On of Michael Damian.

That same year Haim became one of the first to start in reality video in the documentary Corey Haim: Me, Myself, and I, where you can see him taking part in wholesome family activities and discussing his career and ambitions.

With the arrival of the 90’s the straight-to-video releases started. The Dream Machine, Prayer of the Rollerboys, co-starring Patricia Arquette, Blown Away, with Feldman, The Double 0 Kid and Oh, What a Night. He also started releasing sequels like Fast Getaway II and Dream a Little Dream 2 with Feldman also returning. The duo’s last collaboration was the 1996 Busted, while him went on with Snowboard Academy (sturday afternoon in your local channel) , Demolition High, Fever Lake and a minor role in a television version of Merlin. After releasing both Never Too Late and the sequel to Demolition High, Demolition University, he filed for bankruptcy in 1997.

In 2000 he attempted to return with direct-to-video film, Without Malice, with Jennifer Beals and Craig Sheffer, but ended up in rehab. The next year, Haim appeared in The Back Lot Murders alongside Priscilla Barnes, became the subject of an E! True Hollywood Story in 2001, cameoed in Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star, a film about a former child star who did not live a normal childhood, alondside other former child stars, including Feldman.

Haim appeared to have finally overcome his drug habit by 2004, after resettling in Toronto. The Irish band, The Thrills, released a single, “Whatever happened to Corey Haim?”, in September 2004.

On December 4, 2006, Haim began taping an improv/reality show with Corey Feldman titled The Two Coreys, focusing on fictional versions of Haim and Feldman, with the comedy focusing on Feldman living with his wife, and Haim as a bachelor re-entering Feldman’s life and shaking up his comfortable suburban lifestyle. The show was a success and a second season is planned.

The funniest thing about the story and the reason I actually started writing this was this add on Variety:

Corey Haim advertising

And the funniest thing is that with this add he managed to get him and Feldman to get their parts in the sequel of Lost Boys! Who would have thought about it, that they would finally manage to turn from the duo anyone was making fun of, to stars again. We can all hope…(not that the sequel is actually something I would run to see…
