Yes yes people after the third time that the production company of her greek Sticky n’ Sweet show has told us that the tickets are sold out we learn that there are more tickets to buy. The new tickets are half the price as well because of the problematic view. you pay half the ticket becuse you see half of the show or something like that. The new tickets cost from 60 euros up to 175 euros. And yes they are selling VIP tickets with limited view, but still you will be proud to say that I saw Madonna for one hour (the second hour she was out of sight probably) but I was VIP. The tickets of course are limited and you should rush if you lost the first chance that they gave you. Hurry up, hurry up beacuse if you have accepted your bad fate you have to cahnge things. The univesre is giving you another chance don’t miss it. At the end they are going to give you a plastic chair to sitt at the corridors and they will ask you ti pay 200 euros. I want to see the show but they already made me bored with all this hysteria they are trying to create again. Ok it’s sold out, it was expensive but it sold, so please let us in peace go on holidays and see at the end of September what we payed good money for…
And here is the the great view (probably better than these last cheap tickets) Huppy Madonna Thumbnail
The song was originally offered to, but turned down by, Mary Wilson.
Madonna had performed “Holiday” on each of her tours (The Virgin Tour, Who’s That Girl, Blond Ambition, The Girlie Show, Drowned World, and Re-Invention) up until 2006’s Confessions Tour. (A snippet of the song was included in the introduction to “Music Inferno”, however.)
Rumors are that in her Sticky n’ Sweet tour she will include it once again, right before the last song. She has admitted that this is one of her favourites, and is one real crowd pleaser. In case the rumors are true, I don’t care if half of the setlist is her dreadful Hard Candy. We need a Holiday
Holiday Celebrate
Holiday Celebrate
If we took a holiday
Took some time to celebrate
Just one day out of life
It would be, it would be so nice
Everybody spread the word
2001 Drowned World Tour
We’re gonna have a celebration
All across the world
In every nation
It’s time for the good times
Forget about the bad times, oh yeah
One day to come together
To release the pressure
We need a holiday
Re-invention tour
Unfortunatelly no matter how spectacular she tries to be, no one of the above shows had the enrgy of this video, so simple, but so alive and the crowds really into the music, contrary to today’s where everybody just takes photos with his mobile… Still i think is the best closure for a concert
Madonna – Holiday
You can turn this world around
And bring back all of those happy days
Put your troubles down
It’s time to celebrate
Let love shine
And we will find
A way to come together
And make things better
We need a holiday
So for every one worrying (that includes me) that Madonna won’t come there is one less reason to worry. The first day of pre-sales went beyond expectations. The raving fans were there waiting from dwan and till dusk the area in front of the selling point was full. Madonna’s ticket for the area in front of the stage is sold out. Normal if you consider that the line went on growing till the evening and the company decided not to use the centre of athens ticket point anymore for Madonna. Tickets will be available on the net and the stadium ticket point. Then the VIP tickets of 250 euros were also out as did the 110 euros tickets. Let’s see how the black market is going to work in Greece, and how much the hysterical fan will pay for the tickets.
So after the response the first curse of low pre-sales is gone, let’s see what will happen. The first hyesteria will lead to the next one, or some will be diapointed of loosing the good ones. I just wonder who gave 250 euros (275 if bought electronically)?
I got my 90 euros ticket and I am waiting to what I will see, though if she doesn’t do something to the new songs I am afraid that I will have spend 90 euros just for not regretting not being there. Three months and everything will be learned.
Last year they offered us a unique concert and this year they are back to prove that they have a huge fanbase that will shake the place once more. James almost three decades after they formed are still alive and kicking, having a discography of hits, that you will hum even if you think you know nothing about them. And I am so happy they will be in Athens for the Eject Festival, on the 27th of June in the former airport of Athens, in the fencing centre.
They formed the year i was born and have managed to keep this air of friends playing around and having fun. Contrary to most ego-centered bands that pop industry creates, James have managed to stick together knowing that it was their collectivity that made them shine. Their process of work is endless jam sessions where they play freely. If the sessions end up to anything good they just turn it into a song and probably a new hit. During this 27 years people have come and gone from the band, solo projects were realised but they keep going with only a five years hiatus in 2001 after their mediocre album Millionaires .
Despite their lead vocalist Tim Booth being a central personality and the main lyricist, the group kept going as a whole. Their name came following PaulGilbertson’s idea to name themselves after one of the band members. The name came from Jim Glennie. The other members’ names were rejected – Whelan’s Gavan was “too heavy-metal”, while Paul was “too modest” to put his own name forward and Tim was concerned about accusations of egomania that might be associated with a band being named for the lead singer. James was, however, declared “amorphous enough” to summarize what the band was about. The band instantly knew that people would make the mistake of thinking their name represented one person, and played upon this by having Tim walk on stage alone at the beginning of one gig and reading a poem to trick the audience into thinking they had been conned into watching a poet.
Despite their first steps into discography were extremely positive and earn them some attention, the 80’s were not that great for them. The original line up could not work that well due to drug problems and spiritual conquests. As a result they progressed slowly and loosing that initial flare. Paul left the band and then Galan too. They changed two record companies, their albums never managed to sell. What kept them in the spotlight was their grat reputation as a great live act. They were refered as Manchester’s “best kept secret”. At the end of the 80’s a new seven member line up was formed including:
Tim Booth, Jim Glennie, Larry Guttor (their guitar tutor who replaced Paul), David Paynton Power (replaced Galan), Saul Davies, MarkHunter, Andy Diagram
The new line-up debuted with the LP Gold Mother in the 90’s and helped by the whole indie Manchester scene that was hot, they managed to release three top 40 singles How was it for you, Come Home and
Loose Control(#38)
and then they decide to re-release
Sit Down
this is the #77 version in 1989
and here is the version that send them to #2 and was one of the biggest selling singles of 1991 and still their hymn
They never made a bigger hit in the charts, but contrary to all this revolutionary Manchester scene they went on to produce great albums and song that you can easily file as classics. The 90’s found thme working with Brian Eno, realising the experimental album Wah Wah, selling 600.000 copies in the States with their album Laid which included apart from the title track
Say Something
and Sometimes (that’s been allready posted in this blog).
In 1997 they released their first album that actually followed the typical studio way, with Tim Booth recording an album with Angelo Badalamenti and only coming back to record his vocals. Still at that time the Brit Pop scene was hot and James’s sound could easily be promoted in that context, resulting to Whiplash and three more hits in the UK.
Waltzing Along (#23)
She’s a Star (#9)
Tomorrow(#12)
The problem was that their fans were a bit disappointed and thir next album Millionaires was almost passed by. the media didn’t care and the public was not that interested. In 2001 they released the album Pleased To Meet you an album with a tremendous artwork and great production value. Unfortunatelly despite being loved by the fans and offering the great
Geting away with it (all messed up)
No matter what the band made a break for five years with Tim Booth releasing a solo album, before rejoining James for some lives to support their Singles Collection Album Fresh as a Daisy.
The album featured all the singles from the early years till today and a new song that the fans loved right from the start
Upside
This year they came back with th new album Hey Ma!
a new album with a cover that raised protest by th media because of the cover, showing a baby and a gun! Still the sound of it id full of promises with two songs already in the airplay by March 08.
Hey Ma

So many reasons for me to be there again on the 27th of june, because the enrgy of this concert is unique, and to tell you the truth, no matter how great Madonna’s show will be, it will be rather difficult to communicate with the public as well as Booth. Her Icy cold bitch image won’t help. So let the show for Madonna and be astonished by it, but if you want to feel the energy of a concert James is the one to be there
Yes Madonna is coming to Greece, but that doesn’t mean much if you miss the details. The concert at least won’t have Kylie Minogue’s luck. Notrbecause Madonna comes here with her best album ( I prefer X to Hard Candy). Nor because Madonna is not at her highest right now (no comparison with the hyper-hit of Confessions). The success will be because:
The concert is on Saturday, so no work day. The pop crowd we ll have the chance to rest a day before and a day to rest after.
The Olympic stadium is in Athens
You can go there with the metro so no parking
A stadium has no grass and soil on the floor, just sticky plastic from the beers. I ve been there.
So now that there are no excuses the pop crowd has to be there. And I m sorry but 16.000 – 20.000 people for Madonna the first time in Greece is no success. We aim for the top!
And let’s hope that she will transform her boring Hard Candy song, like she did here with Erotica
Kylie came to Greece. At the announcement so many people were happy and passioned to go. You see big pop names never come to Greece, maybe we had in the past U2, Sting, Rolling Stones, Nick Cave, Scorpions, James… but no real pop stars. For so many reasons noone was willing to take the risk… Two years ago they said Jennifer Lopez was coming over, I bought the tickets but it was cancelled, with no real explanation. Suddenly the ghost of a Michael Jackson cancelledconcert 20 years ago returned. The same summer Ricky Martin was about to come, normally no-one cared to buy a ticket so another cancelation. But then Shakira came to save the summer and to prove that a big pop name can attract attention. Not that our stadium was full, only half of it was open and still you couldn’t say it was crowded. At least the concert took place.
Last year some great surprises came. George Michael, Sugababes, Pink, Avril Lavigne all of them were coming to Greece. Finally big pop names in a summer in Greece. George came and attracted a lot of people, though I am not sure if things on sales were that good as expected. For the Avril Lavigne show I have no idea, I didn’t care to be there. Then cmes the Pink-Sugababes double act that was actually cancelled while people were there. Things looked bad right from the start: Just the previous day at the same festival James, Air, Tori Amos and the greek Matisse made the whole area shake all over. You didn’t even need to go with friends because you could meet them there! And then at the day with Pink and Sugababes half of the area was closed. They didn’t expect as many people probably. The greek opening act started normally, and then Sugababes came on stage one third missing. Unfortunatelly the newest member of the group was ill. No problrem though, until at the end of the fifth sng they said goodbye… only to be followed by a voice announcing that Pink ws also sick and she couldn’t be there. No matter what they say if you were there at the James concert you knew that Pink and Sugababed had sold one third of the James. Amos’ tickets.
Something is wrong with the pop crowd in Greece. And this year I was convinced that something is wrong. Kylie Minogue was announced for the 22nd of May. I bought my tickets, friends of mine bought tickets, we went there and had great fun. Kylie was sweet, the show was more than good, I screamed my self out while she was singing Your Disco Needs You and I Should Be So Lucky. What an energy in the crowd what a great night…
And then you learn that only 7000 people were there…
How the hell do we expect to see more big names? Of course you cannot say that things were perfect for the show. If you live in Athens you needed 40 minutes to get at the concert place. The outdoor Terra Vibe couldn’t support one of the seven acts, so we missed the Naughty Manga Girl part… Of course this acceptable objections, you could hear excuses like: you park too far, there is grass on the floor, it will take you ages to leave afterwards etc.
Yeap people had great reasons for not be there, but at the end I am so happy that the concert took place in Terre Vibe. The sound was great, the view was nice, contrary to the cassandras it was not that hard to access it, or leave from there. Plus with 7.000 tickets in any other place the show would have been cancelled (thankfully the company organizing it owns the place so the risk for them was smaller).
Pop crowds in Greece have no idea about concerts, I don’t know why. You don’t miss a chance to watch a big name like kylie, neither because her last album didn;t sell as well, so she is in a decline that’s why she comes. It’s not like her career ended and she revived suddenly.
You don’t miss a chance like that because she doesn’t sing right next to your door. Friends of mine drove 3 hours to come to Athens and all around Europe people even go to the next country if they have the chance. Rock and metal fans on the other hand are ready to travel around the world.
You don’t miss the chance because there is ona act (aka four songs) less in 2 hour and a half show (we missed 30 minutes ok). You can enjoy the rest 2 hours (Madonna’s concerts are 1 hour and a half) and not feeling cheated.
You don’t miss the chance because you are going to be tired when you get home. I am sorry but when you return home after a good concert, with your legs hurting, full of sweat, your voice almost lost, it is such a welcome tirness that you feel. It’s such a sweet and great emotion that pop fans so rarely get to live in Greece. Even if you have to wake up early the next day, you don’t care because you danced your life!
So when Kylie concentrates 7000 people, how can I hope for another big name soon? Rumors say about Madonna, but after that my hopes are less and less. I remember reading back at the years of Ray of light that they were concidering that, but someone said “She doesn;t have the crowd in Greece to support what her price is”. The problem is that even if she came you will hear excuses again and again and reasons why you should not go. And it’s going to be expensive. So even if she attracts twice or three time the people Kylie attracted still it is too risky. The problem with the pop fans in Greece is that they are not that many, and the ones that exists are not that concerty.
I just wished that we one day learn to appreciate concerts and that we would actually go there than just buying them on DVD.
Goodbye Kylie, thanks for coming, i just wished that the warm crowd under tha stage made up for all the absences noticed!
I should be so lucky!!! Not only she came back, she is coming in Greece!!!!
Yeap Yeap it’s true on May 2008 Greece will be Spining around with kylie. I can’t get it out of my head, kylie minogue will come into my world, I feel like i have 2 hearts beating so strong, especialy for me. Tears on my pillow out of joy, I heard it and i was doing the locomotion….
and yeap I could go on but something that seems funny and sweet like chocolate, is going to be really slow. So I am gonna wait the red-blooded woman for a night like this in athens. Sales start at the 19th of december get ready for miss kylie minogue, we re gonna have a celbration and we gonna burn this disco down…
