Greek goverment kills children

No matter how many letters they are going to write, people must never forget who are the people to be balmed, apart from a whole society who supported them…

I just needed to write something down, to express it…

The news are now all around the world. A 15 year old died after a policeman shot him in the chest. And rioting masses arrived in the cities…

(song Quand on arrive en ville, from the musical Starmani, lyrics Luc Plamondon, music: Michele Berger for the no french speakers there is an english version http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v8_Oym-3atw)

Two days before in greek cinema was released the new Clint Eastwood film The Changeling with Angelina Jolie, as Christine Collins, facing a corrupted LAPD system, in order to learn the truth about her son.

The problem is that in the 1930 story of the film the corrupted heads of the LAPD never got actually punished and Christine Collins never got paid by captain JJ Jones, despite winning the second lawsuit for 10.000 $. Captain JJ Jones and Chief  Davies were obliged to leave their posts only to be reinstalled after the protests faded. What a coincidence, a child is always the victim of our pathetic society

Two years ago in Greece, some policemen brutally beated a student during a protest. Their first claim was that he fell on a flower stand on the street. After a video was released showing them beating him people waited for the verdict. Finally nearly none got punished. Some got tranferred, some lost their job for a period.

On Saturday the untouchable cops, went once more out of the line. Again the first effort they made was to lie and try to change the facts, this time they even tried to re-edit some video they found. When the original video came out and witnesses cleared the facts, the two cops were prossecuted for murder in the first degree. It was though too late.

People were already furious, and the goverment asked from policemen to keep back. Great! We have people getting paid to protect citizens and their property, we let them act without any actual control, they kill someone and when cities are in flames, we tell them to keep back. So why do they actually exist? In two days police force proved to be completely incapable of anything: they just killed a citizen and they failed to protect the rest.

The goverment is trying hard to say that it has no responisibility. But excuse me when the only thing you do is just giving power to uneducated fools, you leave them untrained and there is no evaluation of their services, you are actually responsible. When you know that during protestations the biggest part of the riots come from masked policemen pretending to be anarchist or I don’t know what, just beacuse you have to find a way to make the prostest come to an end, you have to admit that the sunday all day burning of Athens was not a result of angry kids.

I stronly believe that today should have been a day with all schools closed, all people in the streets and no nose bleeding, but I don’t think that this is going to happen.

The press shows people’s anger, in an hysterical way to make everyone afraid. I walked in the centre of the city today during the new riots, things are not that dreadfull, with the exception of the police’s chemicals that make the air hard to breath. The most title was one of Espresso (a gossip newspaper in general) who underlined that the s15 year old was from the up-town suburbs, contrary to the punks that actually burned cars yesterday.

The think is that Alexandros Grigoropoulos that died on Saturday, was a victim of the police and the goverments of Greece, who never managed to really surpass the reminiscents of the dicatorship. I wish I could say that te 15 year old is a hero, as a lot say, but he is a victim of a society that closes its eyes for a long time, and when decides to acts, still is ruled by fear and stays home, because no matter how sad feels about something there are punks and anarchists in the streets. Let your fears control you and stay in beacuse the your bourgeoisie lifestyle may be in danger, and then go vote for the same people that led us here.

Students are supposed to have their teen angst, tehir dreams and the school to face not bullets from police officers. Oh yeap that’s the greek so in control society that their only problems are gays that got married, albanian criminals and rioting students. (shhh don’t mention corrupted politicians, police force and terrible economy) The country that shined through the Olympic Games just to fall into the abyss and even deeper.

So happy sometimes… I past the age of 15 and I am alive…

This blog started as a spontaneous thing and I wanted to keep it like that. unfortunately there are moments and post that have not been that spontaneous, or there were thoughts that have never been expressed because i censored myself. I wanted to avoid any post that was not true, any comment on things I have no idea.

At a point I lost it I think. I loved writing things like that, even with my mistakes, my misspelling, my peculiar syntax. I loved the idea of a blog because of the chance o be free to write stuff. I loved reading blogs because contrary to newspaper articles there was this feeling of reading someone’s experiences and opinions. I don’t want to end up writing stuff that I don’t feel, i don’t want to have an opinion on everything and speaking about stuff that are not about me. i am not writing because I want to be in a top 10 or anything. I am glad if I see people reading my posts or commenting. I never tried to polish my blog or create the next best thing. I don’t want to be an agenda. i never cheated on my believes in these posts but there were posts that were not that freely conceived and written. So I have to take a break, or maybe change blog. Because this blog is supposed to be a downtown boy’s thoughts, nothing more nothing less.

I don’t if this blog goes that way, so a goodbye for now

Yes yes people after the third time that the production company of her greek Sticky n’ Sweet show has told us that the tickets are sold out we learn that there are more tickets to buy. The new tickets are half the price as well because of the problematic view. you pay half the ticket becuse you see half of the show or something like that. The new tickets cost from 60 euros up to 175 euros. And yes they are selling VIP tickets with limited view, but still you will be proud to say that I saw Madonna for one hour (the second hour she was out of sight probably) but I was VIP. The tickets of course are limited and you should rush if you lost the first chance that they gave you. Hurry up, hurry up beacuse if you have accepted your bad fate you have to cahnge things. The univesre is giving you another chance don’t miss it. At the end they are going to give you a plastic chair to sitt at the corridors and they will ask you ti pay 200 euros. I want to see the show but they already made me bored with all this hysteria they are trying to create again. Ok it’s sold out, it was expensive but it sold, so please let us in peace go on holidays and see at the end of September what we payed good money for…

And here is the the great view (probably better than these last cheap tickets) Huppy Madonna Thumbnail

Frank Oz‘s In & Out is one of these movies that plays perfectly with sterotypes, has some aces in the sleeve, but survives thanks to its leading actor. Because if it hadn’t been for Kevin Kline’s joyfull performance, this whole think would have sunked completely, not even getting close to something like a success in any level.

Everything starts when, Cameron Drake, a well known actor from a small town in Indiana, while recieving an oscar for his performance of a gay character, thanks his english high school teacher, Howard Bracket, whom he based his performance on. The thing is that Howard is getting ready to marry his long time fiancé Emily and he never thought about his homosexuality. Suddenly Howard’s life turns upside down, as the whole town questions his sexuality and slowly a lot of gay stereotypes fit on him. Even worse an openly gay TV reporter, Peter Malloy, arrives in town, suspecting that Howard is just trying too hard not to accept the truth.

The film puts all the stereoptypes and tries to talk about gay people in denial, about how an information like that can change people’s reaction twoards you, about loosing your ground, your whole identity. Of cousre is a comedy, of course everthing is lightweight, of course it falls into cliches. Still there is a solid cast that manages to pull this film out of the camp, out of the hysterical and avoid it stay on the queer section film because no-one else would be intrested.

Kevin Kline is great as Howard never going to the extreme and never being afraid to play it gay. Tom Selleck tries his best but has so little to do, still he shaved his mustache and is so far away from his Magnum character he is a joy, proving that his comedy skills endure beyond Friends. My lovely Joan Cusack once more plays a role she can do in her sleep, but still is no wonder that she managed to attract award attention, even an Oscar nomination. Clever lines, great actors, comedic timing at its best and three really inspired moments save In & Out from being just another comedy on gay people.

Of course no matter what I am saying when I saw it back in 1997 the film had so much more meaning to me, no matter how distanced I can be right now. In 1997 I was myslef trying to realise what is going on with me. I knew that I was gay but still I was hoping that all the signs were fake. I was at a point of trying to avoid my homosexuality. So when I went to see this film I was pretty sure that Howard was not gay, that he was a victim of stereotypes…

You can add there Howard being a Barbra Streisand fan and you got every sign of gayness in one guy who still tries to be straight. Still I was hoping that Howard at the end will turn out to be straight, like a sign i needed to go back to the “normal” side. I was this kid that the rest of his fellow students thought of as gay, and I hope that i would prove them wrong. Things for me evolved idependantly of the film, but at that time it was a film i lived along. Nowadays I can spot easily guys like that, who have a long long road till they realise their identity… Still the signs are bullshit, onle a gaydar can spot things right.

Still as Barbra Streisand and Barry Gibb sing we have nothing to be Guilty for

I was on my bicycle going to Athens, suddenly next to me stops a car. Not any car though, one of these dark glassed ones with the music playing so loud that you actually thing that time and space travell is possible and you are suddenly tranfered into a club. The proud owner of the car was so happy to listening to his music, he was around 20, having taken his dad car and ready to go at the clubs on the sea to show off. It’s true only by the volume of the music you would turn around to see what was going on.

But despite his will to show his car, I think that the actuall reason that anyone over 25 would turn around would be because of the song he desided to have in his cd player. The late John Scatman‘s Scatman (Ski-Ba-Bop-Ba-Dop-Bop)

It was such a shock to hear this tune in 2008 by a twnety something’s stereo. I found it so strange that anyone would remmeber this tune from 1995, a hit that I was wondering for its success back then. It’s true that it was a big hit and it was unique how a guy with a stuttering problem was actually producing a huge hit (read his story here) , still i never thought that the song could survive beyond this euro-pop area. I just wonder how things turn cassic like that…

Everybody stutters one way or the other
So check out my message to you.
As a matter of fact don't let nothin' hold you back.
If the Scatman can do it so can you.
Everybody's sayin' that the Scatman stutters
But doesn't ever stutter when he sings.
But what you don't know I'm gonna tell you right now
That the stutter and the scat is the same thing.
Yo I'm the Scatman.
Where's the Scatman ? I'm the Scatman.
Why should we be pleasin' all the politician heathens
Who would try to change the seasons if they could?
The state of the condition insults my intuitions
And it only makes me crazy and my heart like wood.
Everybody stutters one way or the other
So check out my message to you.
As a matter of fact don't let nothin' hold you back.
If the Scatman can do it brother so can you.
I'm the Scatman.

If the Scatman can do it brother so can you.
I'm the Scatman.
I hear you all ask 'bout the meaning of scat.
Well I'm the professor and all I can tell you is
While you're still sleepin' the saints are still weepin' cause
Things you call dead haven't yet had the chance to be born.
I'm the Scatman.

In 1996 a movie called Before Sunrise went out in the cinemas, that I didn’t saw at that time. It was in 1998 at 2.00 a.m. that I happened to be up and watching TV. i was ready to turn it off but a movie was starting. i didn’t see the title but I saw Ethan Hawk‘s and Julie Delpy‘s names and I was like “What is it?” and I started watching. A young man on a train is watching a girl and slowly they start talking and talking and talking…

They get down from the train they spent a night in Wien and they keep analyzing their lives, their generations, they keep telling stories till the sun is up and they have to go to their separate ways, in an end that leaves you wondering what will happen…

Last week I went to a theatre and I saw another film with two people meeting In Search of a Midnight Kiss. The story is us simple as the previous as a boy meets a girl and they spend a day together, talking, confessing and having small time adventures in the streets of LA. They go on talking about and actually getting t know each other in a more honest way that you will ever get to know your long time companion, probably they will never have the chance. Wilson and Vivian though don’t have a romantic meeting. They are children of the ’00 (oh what an awful way to describe yourself a the generation of zeroes) and they rarely travel, they rarely go out and flirt.

Going out is more of show off, meeting people is more difficult than ever, and by meeting I mean new people or even your friends. The internet is fast and so easy to access, so you meet your friends online, distances are vanished by some binaries. Wilson puts an ad “Misanthrope looking for misanthrope” and just in order to say that he did try. Vivian’s call is fast and clear , she has 4 more other men to meet, they will meet for five minutes, she doesn’t want to waste her New Year’s Eve with someone she will hate the next day. For sure you know that they will stay together and they will spend the day together, but what matters is the way. They will open up to a complete stranger, they don’t have the fear of being misjudged, the impersonal LA background just gives them the opportunity to wonder around and keep on igniting new conversations, new small time adventures, in a city that is ready to swallow both, as they moved there full of dreams, to end up placing their hopes on a complete stranger.

Alex Holdridge has created a rmantic comedy that manages to escape the cliches of the film, based on clever lines, two charismatic leads and the city that creates and devours dreams. But still no matter how magical you may consider the film to be there is so little chance that it could be the next Before Sunset, not in lack of talent by the actors or the writer/director. The problem is that it never leaves reality, never manages to become this dream meeting. It always stays on the cynical reality of the internet dating. Probably ‘s Celine and Jesse talked about as much as Holdridge’s Wilson and Vivian, but their story is still a fairy tale. Wilson and Vivian just get into the statistics of a wonderful blind date, but still they met in order to have a date.

And that is the main problem of the internet meetings, the blind dates, the arranged gatherings, you may meet the man/woman of your dreams but there is no dream like environment you always miss the magic of serendipity. When I saw Jesse and Celine I was enchanted by them,Wilson and Vivian made follow them but they never ended in my fantasy world. Got to go I have some friends to meet…
